As our spring appeal comes to a close, we’re excited to share our grand finale!

Thanks to your generous support and gifts to the Covenant, we are able to come up with a new, hopeful, and bold tool to help you — as well as other Catholics and institutions — offset your carbon footprint!

CathCAP (Catholic Climate Action Projects) is a groundbreaking new program from Catholic Climate Covenant with co-sponsorship by the Association of U.S. Catholic Priests. This tool empowers individuals and communities to calculate, offset, and most importantly, reduce carbon emissions from travel in a uniquely Catholic way.

Here’s how it works:

• You enter your car or air travel into the CathCAP calculator at cathcap.org
• You receive an estimate of your carbon emissions and a suggested donation amount ($15 per ton of carbon)
• Your donation goes directly to verified ecological projects — either through your local Catholic group (parish, school, etc.) or through a general fund that supports Catholic partners around the globe

Through CathCAP, you’re not just calculating carbon. You’re living out the vision of Laudato Si’, and supporting real, local action that protects our common home.

CathCAP isn’t meant to be a “pay to win” system — you cannot donate your way out of pollution. But if CathCAP is used in conjunction with efforts to live more consciously and actively care for creation, it can be a helpful tool to minimize your carbon footprint. 

Whether you're an individual Catholic who flies once a year, or you help lead a parish, university, or youth group — CathCAP can help you. It's simple, educational, and impactful. And it gives us a powerful, faith-based alternative to the secular world of carbon offsets.

As we emerge from  Laudato Si’ Week, we reflect on the creation care legacy of Pope Francis, who reminded us that “everything is connected.” Real emissions reductions begin with awareness — beginning with the lifestyle changes we’re all called to make as stewards of God’s creation. CathCAP allows you to go even further to help reduce energy use and carbon pollution.
