This bill dramatically eviscerates environmental and climate progress through: - An increased reliance on fossil fuels, reversing years of climate progress
- A weakening of environmental review processes, limiting community voices
- A disregard for the disproportionate impact of pollution on low-income and marginalized communities
In other words, this bill reduces incentives for wind, solar, EVs, and energy efficiency, while adding uncertainty through complex rules and sourcing requirements. Polluters and the fossil fuel industries stand to gain the most from this bill, while clean energy industries face delays, cost increases, and job losses. We are guided by the teachings of the Church and by Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si’, which reminds us that “[h]uman beings too are creatures of this world, enjoying a right to life and happiness, and endowed with unique dignity” (Laudato Si’, 43). Any policy that prioritizes short-term economic gain over the health of our common home and the dignity of human life is inconsistent with Catholic Social Teaching. Sincerely, Catholic Climate Covenant Thank you for your ongoing commitment to faithful advocacy.
