Dear Friends,

2022 was a historic year for climate advocacy. In August, passage of the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) brought to fruition nearly $370 billion in climate investments and years of hard work by advocates like you!

The U.S. Catholic community played a significant role in such advocacy last year, especially through the Encounter for Our Common Home campaign. As the new year begins, we will reflect on progress to this point and take further action toward climate justice in 2023.

We invite you to join Catholic Climate Covenant in a timely dialogue about the progress being made in the clean energy transition through the Inflation Reduction Act, global commitments made at COP27 in November, climate advocacy goals for 2023, and the new U.S. Congress following the midterm elections.

Presenters:

Lindsey Fielder Cook, Quaker United Nations Office Representative for Climate Change

Lindsey’s work at QUNO focuses on climate change and environmental degradation as a peace and justice concern, engaging at an international level with the climate change negotiations, climate science, human rights efforts, while seeking to connect international progress with grassroots efforts. She has attended many UN Conferences on Climate Change and attended COP27 in Egypt in late 2022.

Fr. Eduardo Agosta Scarel, O Carm., Carmelite NGO

This discussion is related to our Encounter for Our Common Home campaign, and this policy dialogue will serve as a precursor for a second event in January (coming soon!) focused on implementing IRA, living out the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, and making Catholic buildings more sustainable.

We look forward to seeing you at both these discussions and kicking off an exciting year for the U.S. Catholic community!

Sincerely,

Henry Glynn
