Urge your Senators to Pass Ambitious Climate Solutions

Please join Catholics across the country who are urging their senators to support $369 billion in climate solutions in the Inflation Reduction Act that lower national greenhouse gas emissions and help communities build resilience against the impacts of climate change.

The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reaffirms that we must dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions to prevent the most catastrophic impacts of climate change upon our common home and future. Renewable energy reduces reliance on destabilizing petrostates, and must be a significant energy source for a peaceable future. We are tragically reminded that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is funded by profits from the export of oil and gas.

We need legislators from both political parties to support legislation that reduces dependence on fossil fuels, addresses the climate crisis, and improves prospects for a thriving and peaceful future, especially our most vulnerable neighbors. The opportunity is before us now through the $369 billion in climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. Please urge them to support this legislation for the common good of all.

As a Catholic called to uphold the life and dignity of every human person and to care for Earth, our common home, I urge you to support the Inflation Reduction Act that includes $369 billion in investments and programs that spur renewable energy deployment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, empower rural communities and communities experiencing environmental contamination, improve prospects for a thriving and peaceful future for all. The most recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change makes clear that ambitious legislation is critical to address the root causes of climate change and create a clean, energy independent future for the good of all people. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine makes our need to depend less on fossil fuels even more tragically apparent. The proposed $369 billion in climate solutions in the Inflation Reduction Act will protect directly affected communities, and help decarbonize and strengthen the economy.
