Let us spread our light by taking action and advocating for renewable energy transition in our state! In Laudato Si’ Pope Francis stated, “There is an urgent need to develop policies so that, in the next few years, the emission of carbon dioxide and other highly polluting gases can be drastically reduced, for example, substituting for fossil fuels and developing sources of renewable energy.” (LS #26)

As Catholics, we are called to speak out and advocate for investments in renewable energy like wind and solar because:

Renewable energy is often more cost-effective than traditional fossil fuels. Shifting to renewable energy helps reduce electricity costs and fosters economic growth by creating hundreds of thousands of new, well-paying local jobs.
Adopting more diversified and stable energy sources in renewables will decrease our need to import fossil fuels, thereby enhancing national security.
Transitioning to clean and renewable energy also brings significant public health benefits. Reducing pollution from fossil fuel energy leads to fewer health issues such as respiratory diseases and lower overall healthcare costs. Cleaner air contributes to better mental health and a higher quality of life.

Transitioning to renewable energy will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which benefits the environment and helps to tackle climate change

The U.S. Catholic community can help make the transition to renewable energy a reality. Contact your state legislators today and urge them to prioritize renewable energy investments. Your voice can help secure a healthier, more affordable, and sustainable energy future for all.

As a Catholic who cares about protecting God’s creation and the health and well-being of present and future generations, I urge you to support increased investment in transitioning to renewable energy within our state. I agree with what Pope Francis stated in Laudato Si’: “There is an urgent need to develop policies so that, in the next few years, the emission of carbon dioxide and other highly polluting gases can be drastically reduced, for example, substituting for fossil fuels and developing sources of renewable energy.” (LS #26). My faith informs my conviction that, as a community, we are called to prioritize the common good. Rapidly transitioning to renewable energy will provide practical solutions that will benefit the common good. Solutions such as: Economic Benefits: Renewable energy is now the most cost-effective source of new power in many areas across the US, including our state. Wind and solar have become more affordable than fossil fuels, leading to lower electricity costs for consumers.[1] Energy Independence: By boosting our capacity for domestic renewable energy, we reduce our need to import fossil fuels, enhancing national security and insulating us from volatile global energy markets. A diversified energy portfolio also provides a stable energy supply.[2] Job Creation: The renewable energy sector will create nearly a million new jobs in the US by 2035, touching industries such as construction, manufacturing, and ongoing operations while boosting our economy and providing long-term employment.[3] Public Health: Cleaner energy sources reduce pollution, leading to fewer health issues and lower healthcare costs. A cleaner environment also promotes better mental health and quality of life.[4] Environmental Benefits: Renewable energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions.[5] I urge you to prioritize renewable energy initiatives for a healthier, more prosperous future for all of God's creation and find meaningful ways to support and promote renewable energy in our state.
